New study shows just how far “Out of Reach” housing is for many Taos County Residents

The National Low Income Housing Coalition recently updated their “Out of Reach” Housing Study, which illustrates the growing gap between local wages and housing prices across the country.

Their report shows that a Taos County resident needs to be earning $17.96/hr, working 40 hours a week to afford the Fair Market Rent for a one bedroom appartment. Put differently, a Taos County resident needs to work 60 hours a week at the minimum wage to afford a one bedroom apartment.

To access the data yourself, and to compare Taos County to other areas across the country, visit the Out of Reach New Mexico page, and type “Taos County” into the “Compare Jurisdictions” bar.
